The Team

Between us, we have a breadth of diverse knowledge having worked in both smaller practices and larger multi-disciplinary AJ100 practices across Somerset, Sussex & London. The team have worked on schemes that have ranged from private one-off houses to 1000’s of homes for larger national house builders and as a result, we understand that each project requires a different approach. We are always ready with our pens and pencils to start the journey, no matter how big or small.

The experiences gained individually have shaped us as people meaning every member of the team brings their own knowledge, background and thinking to each project. These perspectives allow us to challenge both ourselves and the projects we are involved with while continuing to be ambitious.

Both James and Nick have strong Somerset roots, having grown up locally. Their love for the area and natural environment continues to influence their decisions and approach to architecture. Having both met at the start of their architectural careers when working together in Taunton, they have always remained good friends and brought together their passion and principles into the practice.

We recognise that all clients are different and each requires a bespoke service and skill set. Our role at LSL Architecture is to help our clients navigate their way through the planning and construction process providing ideas, information and support to help bring their dreams to reality.

At our first meeting we will be able to determine your ideas and requirements and the input you require from our team of Qualified Architects & Technologist. Our particular skills are our unique designs, incorporating the Clients Brief above and beyond. Our portfolio of both completed and in progress projects indicate our skills in maximising space whilst respecting the existing property.

We work with a number of clients to renovate, restore and extend high street commercial property to improve the building for tenants.

As an example, we restored and extended 7 Cornhill, Dorchester, which is now is tenanted by The Cornish Bakery.

We also design brand new commercial units, for industrial, storage and distribution uses, as well as offices.

With our in-depth knowledge of conservation techniques and Listed Buildings, we can assist with any issues surrounding listed building consent applications as we have established a good working relationship with Local Authorities across the South West.

Working alongside Clients and Contractors to provide a complete building contract administration service to ensure that projects are completed both on time and within the allocated budget. This is assisted with the preparation of Tender Documentation which include the Working Drawings which are read in conjunction with Specification of Works which are project specific. This enables Contractors to Tender on an even keel to whom we have established long term relationships with. As works progress on site, inspections are carried out, chairing of site meetings, summarising valuations and certifying payment. This project approach is particularly beneficial with medium to large sized projects.

During our free initial visit, we will discuss the potential of the dwelling / site and give the necessary advice we feel that would meet your requirements. We have an in house planning consultant that can tackle any permitted development or potentially difficult planning applications. We do feel that in our experience that in potentially difficult planning or projects that involve alterations to Listed Buildings that seeking Pre-application advice is a great process to decipher the Local Authorities stance on a potential project. As part of our service we collate the necessary documentation for Planning Applications including Design Statements, planning forms and OS plans.
